Like every other person this past weekend (or at least however many people were necessary to amass a global box office revenue of $450 million), I watched Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. I have... somewhat negative opinions on it that I won't get into considering I don't particularly enjoy tearing into movies unless the person on the other end of the conversation is in agreement with me or willing to make a valid argument in its favor, but I definitely had a fun time with the movie and absolutely no regrets towards seeing it. I watched it on Saturday, mostly as a last minute impromptu get together with my friends for one of their birthdays, and it was a great time! There were about seven of us, and we all met at Paseo Nuevo beforehand and had some fun shopping around.
After the movie ended, two of the people left, and I went on an endeavor to find a Mother's Day gift for my mom. We drove to Homegoods in my friend's car, but things quickly devolved, and I found myself trapped in a very weird development, but we pulled through and made it to gift hunting! I ended up getting my mom a sun hat and mug, both of which she seemed to enjoy. Then, we all hung out in a Starbucks for a bit speculating over everything that had just happened before hopping back in the car and driving to Rusty's.
After we ate our fill, we walked over to San Marcos to watch their production of Little Shop of Horrors! As much as it pains me to say, it was better than Chicago, and I would heavily recommend it to anyone who has the chance to see it. Everyone there did an INCREDIBLE job, and I still can't get over how amazing everything was! Unfortunately I didn't take any photos, but I have some from the San Marcos Instagram page.
Everything else in my life as of recently has mostly consisted of our student run production of Midsummer Night's Dream and preparing for the AP World Exam. Granted, I still have a very long way to go, and I just really hope I pass. It was a little crushing yesterday to see that on my practice 55 question MCQ, I only got a 31 (still passing but barely a 3), but I can't let failure stop me from studying. And below is just a really cute photo taken from after the exam!
Despite the AP World History Exam rapidly approaching, my weekends have still been filled to the brim with activites. Granted, I was given the opportunity to study on Sunday morning (which was forsaken to catch up on much needed sleep), but these past few weeks have been a whirlwhind of events. This past weekend stands as a prime example, and I wouldn't trade the fun I had for anything else in the world.
Friday afternoon, universally agreed upon as the start of the weekend, was when everything began. MAD hosted it's first film festival! I, of course, attended (as a part of MAD Studio, I was working the merch and concessions stands). I was extremely grateful to be there, and was able to witness some INCREDIBLE films! I also had a lot of fun with all of my friends that ended up being there, and was even able to help recruit the final piece needed for a certain Saturday event. Unfortunately, I was unable to take any photos of the festival, so this photo of the poster will have to suffice.
As mentioned just prior, the film festival allowed for everything to come together on Saturday, which was... drumroll please... a 48 hour film competition! Waking up at the incredulously early hour of 7:00 AM on a Saturday, I reluctantly forced myself awake to peruse the contents of the day. I had to leave the house by 8:00 in order to make it to our set on time (courtesy of the incredible Chapala Market), but before that, I had to attend to the very important matters such as snacks, a few costume pieces, and the need for sustenace as we wouldn't have time for lunch on set.
Luckily, I managed to get everything in time, and set off to meet with everybody. We started off making fairly good time only to be met with the first major hurdle of the day: the audio. Much to everyone's horror, the music in the market was monstrous(ly loud)! It was impossible for the equipment to pick up anything, so we all regrouped to survey our options: we could a) ask them to turn off the music, and if that didn't work b) find a new location. We asked them about the first, and they weren't sure. We rapidly jumped into phone call after phone call for new locations, only to face rejection after rejection. All hope seemed lost. Until, finally, with the biggest stroke of luck, the employee came back out and told us they could turn off the music. While there were a few more hiccups regarding times people could film and going off schedule, miraculously, everything came together and we ended around 3:00. Unfortunately, I can't post the video on social media, but below are a few of my favorite pictures from the day!
But, I still had more to do. I had plans with friends to go to one of their houses and watch a movie, and by 7:00, I rolled up with some cupcakes that went disastrously and plans for a good time. Unfortunately I also don't have any photos of that night, but we ended up watching House of Gucci and enjoyed some fantastic food.
The next day, I planned on spending the morning studying for the AP Exam, however, that was forsaken in favor of rest and plans to go to the fair at 5:00. Once at the fair, everything seemed to be going fine, until my money kept getting denied to buy a wristband. So, the only one of us who had a wristband went on rides while me and my other friend watched from the sidelines. Eventually, we all went to play a game, and just so happened to pass by one of those goldfish winning places. We all joked about how immoral they were yet somehow still went to play, not thinking we would win. (I have no idea what was going through our heads). But then we won. Not wanting to let it die, we called around, seeing if anyone nearby could get us goldfish supplies as Petsmart was closing in an hour. We received a maybe, but then realized that we could potentially go back for one of those bigger tank things so that Stede (the goldfish) wasn't just in a bag. We went back, and the lady working there told us $10. She then promptly handed us a tray of balls to throw in order to win the tank. By some incredulous stroke of luck, we won, and then she gave us two more goldfish with the tank. So we were stuck at the fair with three goldfish and needed to get fish supplies with no car. Luckily, our maybe worked out, and we got them a tank, and now they're all still alive doing well!
As for the rest of this week, auditions for the student run production of Midsummer Night's Dream were completed and the cast list was finalized, and now I've been working on the play (I am one of the fairies!) alongside studying for the exam.
